In every business, there’s always at least one thing that we dread doing.
And stats show that marketing is right up there with taxes and bookkeeping.
It doesn’t really matter how many great online marketing tools there are, at the end of the day, they still call for you to dedicate time to learn each system and execute something! For some, this is perfect. But for many, just another obstacle. Because once you set aside the time and actually sit down, staring at the glowing computer screen, with 45 dozen templates looking right back at you, that’s when the levity of it all really sinks in. That’s when the rubber really meets the road. Content! What should I even say?!
Despite what the commercials say, or the websites may promise, I can tell you with my hand over my heart, there is no one system that can service 100% of the people all of the time. (Factually, the numbers are much more oppressive than you might think.) So here’s a hint. Go sit in a quiet place, away from work, (drink optional) close your eyes, and focus your attention on what your customer “sees” when they walk in or experience your brand. What do you think they want to see and experience? Start with the end goal in mind, and reverse engineer how you can help them “get there.” That’s the starting point for effective messaging. Obvious? Maybe, but do you really do that?
The beauty of great marketing comes in its focused simplicity. We all tend to over-complicate the messaging and we rationalize it by convincing ourselves that the customer needs to know absolutely everything about you. Not true. Take baby steps to educate your customer. And start with what you do best and what they need most. And tell that story cleanly. From their point of view.
The results are astounding.
